Easy Advent Calendar

Picture
This Advent Calendar is easy to make and a hit with the kids. You can fill the pockets with little treats, toys, stickers, or other special surprises. You can also choose not to fill the pockets and use a small ornament or figure to count down the days until Christmas.
You need: a piece of felt for the background....19 inches long, 16 inches wide. You also need to make 25 squares of felt that are 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches, and 25 squares that are 2 inches by 2 inches. Stencil the 25 days of Christmas with white acrylic or fabric paint on the small squares and hot glue them to the larger squares. Then hot glue or sew the larger squares in rows of 5 onto the background, leaving the top sides open to form the "pockets". Start attaching the squares at the bottom, and leave a few inches on top to fold over and glue an 18 inch dowel rod (see picture). Attach a ribbon and enjoy!

Easy Homemade Napkin Rings

Picture
homemade napkin rings
These napkin rings are quick, easy, and beautiful! First, we wrapped the silverware up in cloth napkins. Then we cut striped of orange felt about 5 inches long and 1 inch wide. We wrapped the felt strip around the napkin and used a dab of hot glue to hold the overlapping ends together (being careful not to get any glue on the napkin, of course). With another dab of glue, we attached an artificial leaf to the felt "ring". This is another project that you could adapt to any holiday by changing the color of the felt and the object attached to it.

Artwork Hanger

Picture
This is simple and easy to make. I found a piece of 1 1/4 inch wide trim at the hardware store, and cut it into pieces 2 1/2 feet long (you can have them do this for you at the store). Then I hot glued 5 mini-clothespins about 7 inces apart along the strip. We found the wooden stars at the craft store and painted them before we glued them to the front of the clothespins. (You can find many different wooden shapes at the craft store to personalize this craft with.) I used double-sided foam tape to attach the final product to the wall.

Turkey Candle Holder

Picture
click here to get instructions on how to make a cute turkey centerpiece.....I had all my kids make colorful feathers from cardstock to glue on as the "tail". It looks awesome when the candle it lit. This would be an easy craft to modify for many different animals, events, and holidays. You could use orange tissue paper and make a pumpkin, red to make Santa, or pink to make a bunny.
